Why be a Friend of the Archive-Library?

The Santa Bárbara Mission-Archive Library is a non-profit historical and educational institution that depends on donations, grants, and Friends to cover staffing, conservation, and operation expenses. Support the Archive-Library by becoming a Friend of the SBMAL, our annual membership program. Your contribution allows us to give access to our extensive collections, facilitate events, and foster community throughout the Franciscan community and beyond.

Those who do research at the Mission Archive-Library are required to be Registered Researchers or part of the Friends of SBMAL.  If your interest is a one-time inquiry or research project, becoming a Registered Researcher rather than a Friend might better suit your needs.

All of our Friends of the SBMAL have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping with the vital work of maintaining this wealth of historical data for the benefit of scholars, researchers, and the general public.

The Santa Bárbara Mission Archive-Library is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization (Federal Tax ID# 95-6220730). Your contributions to the SBMAL are  tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

We would like to acknowledge that SBMAL is located on the traditional ancestral territory of the

Barbareño Chumash people, and where Franciscan friars have sought to proclaim the Gospel since 1786.
